Synthia Payne is a tech savvy communicator and expert in the installation and operation of JackTrip software, hardware, and peripherals for multiplayer online live music collaborations.
Synthia’s background includes a lifelong singing career, a passion for improvisation, and conducting dozens of workshops, demos, and performances as a network music performance lecturer, instructor, engineer, producer, and vocalist.
During her time as a graduate student, Synthia wrote a high-level design document entitled, CYBERJAMMER, which sketched out ways to create an avatar that could move based on the musician’s movements and music played in an online music jam.
This document along with Synthia’s graduate thesis entitled, “Telepresent Music Improvisation”, contributed to her attainment of a Master of Fine Arts degree in Digital Arts and New Media from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
multiplayer live musicking in a metaverse
Talk Description :
With the current metaverse explosion, and technological advancements, Synthia is again researching ways to combine the music and movements of musicians in a network music jam session with the movements of their respective avatar or other visual events in a metaverse.
There still is no one virtual reality platform that combines a musician playing in a multiplayer online live music session while simultaneously being an avatar in the platform.
For the Music Meets Metaverse Summit, Synthia will share how she runs two separate apps side-by-side, and show snippets from her CYBERJAMMER design document that is sparking the development of a single metaverse platform that combines a musician’s live online musicking with being an avatar in the same platform.
